Art by Ryan Wilks Hello, I'm Ryan Wilks. By day, I work in Hospital Leadership, and by nights and weekends I lead a fulfilling life as a partner, friend, and artist. Mywork changes mediums often but remains steadfast in the main subject of thought centralizing around, crimes of the church, queer sex, gender identity, and expressing human joy and suffering through irreverent and beautifully rendered human form. Most recently I have been creating fully articulated human and animal figures out of foam, plastic sheets, velvet, and paper. A fun example of this work is the piece I'm offering for the benefit of the Golden Spirit Children's Choirs. This piece is meant to be displayed and posed in an upright, wall hanging shadow box. The back should be quark board and professionally wrapped in velvet and or felt. Using clear push pins, the owner can position this figure in as many ways as they might imagine simply by moving push pins to desired position and letting the figure rest on them. I think this is such a fun way to keep the same piece interesting and new for years.

A note from Golden Spirit Children’s Choirs: Proceeds go toward piloting Golden Spirit Children’s Choirs in the fall of 2024. Golden Spirit is a unique children’s choir organization in that it focuses not only on music learning objectives, but also social emotional learning objectives and poetry learning objectives, so that kids have the opportunity to practice mindfulness, movement, and rhythm, which research shows are crucial elements for kids living in poverty. Golden Spirit exists because we believe every child deserves the chance to sing and be heard.
